Remote Control HP NNMi

Guest Post by Desi DosSantos
VP of Product Strategy at AlarmPoint

AlarmPoint has just released FREE AlarmPoint Express and Mobile Gateway for HP NNMi 8.13. Much like our other integrations, AlarmPoint Express will work to streamline notifications coming from NNMi in order to direct each IT event to an individual who can take immediate action, rather than a whole department. So, you might ask, what’s new about this HP NNMi Integration? Well, one of the key new features is the Mobile Gateway integration. What’s cool about it is that if you have a browser-based device, like an iPhone, Blackberry, Treo, Palm, Droid or Windows Mobile device, you now have a remote control to work with NNMi. And there is no software installed on the device at all! Yes, just like the remote control for your TV or DVR, except this remote can be anywhere in the world as long as you have a cell signal.

So let’s walk through a typical scenario. You are walking through the grocery store, minding your own business, and your Blackberry starts buzzing. When you look at the screen, it’s AlarmPoint sending you a text message or an email. So you look at the message, and it’s a critical event on a system forwarded from HP NNMi. You have a set of typical responses that will allow you to stop further notifications, so you acknowledge the incident. AlarmPoint then marks the incident on the NNMi console as “In Progress”, and annotates that you have taken ownership.

So what do you do next? Well, you need to fix the problem. However you’re curious what other incidents are going on in NNMi. On your BlackBerry, you utilize the AlarmPoint Mobile Gateway in order to view all of the color-coded incidents on the HP NNMi console.  Yes, you are still standing in the grocery store, and you are now looking at the console as if you were standing in the computer room.

So what can you do now? Well, what would you like to do?

  • Change the priority on the incident
  • Change the Lifecycle state
  • Assign the incident
  • View all of the Source Node or Source Object information
  • Read or add annotations in the Notes field for an incident
  • Query for other incidents and view/modify them
  • View Service Impact incidents
  • iew your assigned incidents and more.

So, how much does AlarmPoint Express for HP NNMi 8.13 cost? Absolutely nothing. Through a special arrangement between AlarmPoint and HP, customers with NNMi 8.13 can go to the following URL, register, download, and install AlarmPoint Express for free. Express will handle up to 10 users for notifications, and 2 users for the Mobile Gateway.

New HP Bundle: AlarmPoint Express and Mobile Gateway Bundled for Free with HP Service Manager 7.11

AlarmPoint is extremely pleased to announce that free copies of AlarmPoint Express and AlarmPoint Mobile Gateway are now being included in packages of HP Service Manager  7.11 (HPSM). With two successful bundles already out (read about the HP NNMi bundle and the HP Operations Manager for Unix bundle here), HP and AlarmPoint have decided to provide AlarmPoint software to  Service Manager customers in order to better manage notifications coming from HPSM. This $2500 value is completely free.

AlarmPoint’s out-of-the-box integration will function in much the same way as previous software bundles. AlarmPoint Express includes the basic functionality of an Alert Management platform, which ensures that events coming from Service Manager aren’t sent out to everyone in the department. Instead, AlarmPoint Express automatically routes each alert to the correct group or individual, and initiates two-way communication until that individual owns the event. Express will also automatically escalate if a person doesn’t respond to the alert. This reduces the number of people involved in each event by about 80%.

With the addition of the AlarmPoint Mobile Gateway, HPSM users get unique access to Service Manager from their mobile devices. Users are able to view, edit, annotate, research, trouble shoot and take remote actions on all events coming from HP Service Manager. Much like our previous OMU bundle, this one gives mobile personnel using BlackBerrys, iPhones, or any other Smartphone a single secure, authenticated and audited access point for not only HPSM, but any other service delivery and service support applications sending out notifications. This is also a boon for Change Management, as managers can approve, deny or get more information about changes while stuck in meetings.

According the HP’s Service Management Center senior product manager, Fred Mougayar, this bundle will do more than just better manage alerts – it’ll make your IT department faster, more cost-effective, and better equipped to deliver the standards the business demands.

“Customers can reduce operations costs, meet increasing business requirements, and deliver a higher level of service to their end users by combining service management and alert management capabilities,” Mougayar said. “The combination of AlarmPoint with HP enables mobile users to access HP Service Manager from any location, which provides targeted incident and change information to the person who can resolve the problem.”

AlarmPoint Express and Mobile Gateway Bundled with HP Operation Manager for Unix

It’s official – AlarmPoint products are going out FREE with all packages of Version 9 HP Operations Manager for Unix. HP OMU customers can now enable the AlarmPoint Alert Management platform for 10 users and have the ability to resolve events from their Smartphones using Mobile Gateway. This $2500 value is free to all HP customers.

AlarmPoint Express targets IT alerts to individuals rather than groups, and includes many key Alert Management services, including web-based system administration, messaging with guaranteed delivery, and automated scheduling and escalation processes. Mobile Gateway enables users to view, edit, annotate, research, trouble shoot and take remote actions on all events coming from OMU. Mobile personnel using Blackberries, iPhones, or any other Smartphone will now have a single secure, authenticated and audited access point for not only Operations Manager, but any other service delivery and service support applications sending out notifications.

The addition of these two AlarmPoint products with HP Operations Manager will accelerate event resolution and response time by automatically targeting Operations Manager notifications to the people who need them.
